In a bold act of protest, women from the residential area of Munshirhat under Jagatballabpur police station in Howrah vandalized and set fire to an illegal liquor distillery. Alleging that illegal liquor had been sold in the area for a long time without any police intervention, the women took matters into their own hands on Monday. Armed with bamboo sticks, they destroyed the Cholai liquor shop and set it ablaze.
Local women, including Alpana Mandal, expressed their frustration over the impact of alcohol addiction on their families. "The men of the house create unrest and fight after drinking alcohol. Do not give any money to the family. We have to bear the expenses of our children's education," Mandal stated. She warned that if the police did not take action following this incident, they would dismantle the shop again.
